Project Netra

Global Foundation has taken up the social cause of disability. India can’t become a developed nation by 2020 if we neglect and leave behind 5% of India’s population suffering from various physical challenges like visually impaired, deaf and dumb etc. Global Foundation is committed to tap the potential of differently abled people and integrate them with national economic system and productive force. Global Foundation is empowering visually impaired students with IT education and employment

Global Foundation is dedicated to bringing about change in the lives of visually impaired. GTL being a Technology driven company has the know how in IT sector and this knowledge it has used in bringing about positive changes in the lives of visually impaired through IT training and education. The Foundation has initiated Project Netra and has set up two Advanced Computer Training Centers for the Visually Impaired in Mumbai.

Objectives
  • To bridge the digital divide between visually impaired and sighted persons
  • To provide IT training and education for livelihood development and employment
Activities
  • Three months Basic Computer Course with help of JAWS software. The syllabus includes MS office package & internet.
  • One Year Advance Computer Course training, which is a job oriented course. The course includes software languages like C++, C#, SQL, HTML, .Net and Java. Students get software-programming training with help of screen reader JAWS software.
  • Four months Computer Hardware training for livelihood development for the partially blind.
  • Three-month English language training and soft skill development program for advance batch.

Impacts
  • 189 Basic Students have passed out. Some of them have opted for Advance Courses. Others have gained immensely from computer education in their studies and day-to-day activities.
  • 66 advance students who have passed out are working with various companies and self-employed. Some have also gone on to completing higher studies. After successful completion of Advance course, visually impaired students are getting jobs in IT companies, BPO, HR firms, Telecom sector, Medical Transcriptions,Financial Institutions, Insurance sector etc. Many have improvised their skills in their own trade and business.
  • 20 Hardware students have successfully completed their training. 11 are working and self-employed.
